I agree, I've noticed in Britain there are far more inter-racial marriages than in the US and it isn't considered odd in the least. Here it usually has a raised eyebrow and down from there. I remember being online once talking about an African American actor whom I mentioned was quite stunningly handsome and received a shocked silence in a chat room and then "aren't you white? That's sick" which I found infuriating. And this is in the generation of young people supposedly brought up without that. Those sorts of attitudes are what I find sickening, and quite depressing that people haven't gone past that. In Northern California it is more a problem with the Latino population in that everyone automatically sees them as grape pickers that can't speak English and treat them like they are dirt on their shoes when they could be highly educated business owners. No matter what the culture, we need to not assume things based simply on what language they speak or what they look like, yet so many people do. All we can try is to bring up our own children to think differently.
